Two weeks, two visits to London. Having moved out of the Big City at the end of 1998, and having settled into the calm life in Chester (apart from a 12-month stint in Santa Monica, but that’s another story) it takes something to drag me away from home and onto a train for London.
The toy industry, however, is no different to any other – almost everything happens in London. So last week I was down for a LeapFrog press event and this week it was Christmas in July in Marylebone. At the end of the month it will be Hasbro’s Christmas showcase and I’ll be on the train again.
It’s always exciting to get back to the capital and although experience tells me that the thrill can wear off when you’re travelling to and from work on the underground every day, a day-trip is a lot of fun.
Coming back home with a bag full of samples for the kids is also always a great experience and you feel a bit like Santa himself when you open the door to two sets of wide eyes and wave an overflowing goodie bag in front of them.
It’s been an exciting time for ToyTalk. We recently passed the 1,000 story mark. With most of our stories covering more than one new product, it means that ToyTalk now has information on literally thousands of toys.
We are also about to be covered as a TypePad Featured Site, which is a very welcome pat on the back and will up the profile of the site even more. I’ll have more to say about that next Tuesday…
